Buy Books For Charity

3. Local LibrariesAs with most places on this list, it is wise and courteous to call in advance for specifics on current needs. Many local libraries do not have space or time to sort through large collections of books. Check to see if they are looking for current titles, or organizing a community book sale in the near future.

We are a small town senior housing site and we have many different types of books we would like to donate. They range from fiction to non-fiction, science, arts & crafts, history, medical etc. Since we are located in such an isolated area, finding a place to donate has been difficult. Does anyone have a suggestion? Our local surrounding areas are not taking donations at this time.

Most of these organizations are good suggestions, but please do not donate to Salvation Army. They are not a non profit, and while they do participate in some charitable work they will only provide to those who are Christian and will try to force people to convert by holding their needs over their heads. They actively oppose LGBTQ+ rights and even petitioned for a bill that will allow they execution of LGBTQ+ individuals and there have been countless cases of physical, sexual, emotional, and mental abuses to those who sought shelter from them by employees. Additionally, most of their money does not actually go towards their charity work but instead towards lobbying for their political beliefs.

I have few technical books to donate. It includesMicrobiology, Biotechnology, Genetics, Animal Husbandry, C+ computer, Spiritual, Prepared Projects on biotech, etc. About 20 to 30 used books in good condition.

While Chicago Public Schools is almost 90% children of color, less than 15% of kids books published in the past 20 years contain multicultural characters or story lines. Books that "mirror" a child's experience is a key factor in developing a love of reading. To that end, we have created the Gift of Books campaign that allows us to purchase new books to give away that overcome this disparity.

We are asking all our friends to help financially support the store buildout. We have a $100,000 goal to convert an old furniture store into the best mission-driven bookstore in Chicago. Every dollar you provide will help to meet this goal and realize our vision.

Each year, generous readers donate hundreds of thousands of books to support literacy. We sell those books in our stores and online to help fund our programs, use and give them away in our literacy and book grant programs.

The generosity of donors helps us engage more than 6,000 youth through our literacy programs and give way more than 180,000 books to children and families each year. Together, we can transform lives through reading, writing, and the giving power of used books.

Not only do your book donations through Pickup Please support US Veterans, they also support reading in general. Schools and families buy books for fun and education. Instead of throwing out your old books or recycling them, donate them so they can be read and enjoyed again.

Please be aware that the American Library Association does not accept or distribute donations of books or any other materials. This Guide provides information on some of the groups and organizations that do handle book donations.

Better World Books is a for-profit social enterprise that collects and sells books online to fund literacy initiatives worldwide. With more than eight million new and used titles in stock, Better World Books is a self-sustaining company that balances the social, economic and environmental values of its stakeholders. Since its founding in 2003, the company has raised millions for its nonprofit literacy and library partners; diverted hundreds of thousand tons of books from landfills; achieved tons of carbon offsets through carbon-neutral shipping and created hundreds of full-time jobs with meaningful benefits in multiple locations around the world.

Better World Books diverts books from landfills by collecting material from libraries, bookstores, college campuses through the community and in other areas where surplus materials exist. It then sells those used books and contributes a portion of the revenue on each sale to support literacy, libraries and education. Books that cannot be sold are frequently donated to at risk communities in the U.S.

Two billion pounds of books each year are sent to landfills. Our Drop Box program addresses the environmental impact while also building advocacy around education and book donations. The free program helps raise funds for libraries and education, supports literacy efforts locally and globally. One parking spot can help change the world. To date we have over 800 Drop Box locations and counting. Learn more.

To figure how much you may deduct for property that you contribute, you must first determine its FMV on the date of the contribution. This publication focuses the valuation of noncash property being contributed after January 1, 2019, to a charity that qualifies under section 170(c) for an income tax charitable contribution deduction.

Ordinarily, the date of a contribution is the date on which the property is delivered to the charity, provided you do not retain any right to or interest in the property that would limit the charity's use of the property.

If you deliver, without any conditions, a properly endorsed stock certificate to a qualified organization or to an agent of the organization, the date of the contribution is the date of delivery. If the certificate is mailed and received through the regular mail, it is the date of mailing. If you deliver the certificate to a bank or broker acting as your agent or to the issuing corporation or its agent, for transfer into the name of the organization, the date of the contribution is the date the stock is transferred on the books of the corporation.

The selling price for these gems had not changed from the date of purchase to the date Bailey donated them to charity. The best evidence of FMV depends on actual transactions and not on some artificial estimate. The $5,000 charged Bailey and others is, therefore, the best evidence of the maximum FMV of the gems.

You give a rare, old book to your former college. The book is a third edition and is in poor condition because of a missing back cover. You discover that there was a sale for $300, near the valuation date, of a first edition of the book that was in good condition. Although the contents are the same, the books are not at all similar because of the different editions and their physical condition. Little consideration would be given to the selling price of the $300 property by knowledgeable buyers or sellers.

You give farmland to a qualified charity. The transfer provides that your mother will have the right to all income and full use of the property for her life. Even though your mother dies 1 week after the transfer, the value of the property on the date it is given is its present value, subject to the life interest as estimated from actuarial tables. You may not take a higher deduction because the charity received full use and possession of the land only 1 week after the transfer.

You give all your rights in a successful patent to your favorite charity. Your records show that before the valuation date there were three stages in the patent's history of earnings. First, there was rapid growth in earnings when the invention was introduced. Then, there was a period of high earnings when the invention was being exploited. Finally, there was a decline in earnings when competing inventions were introduced. The entire history of earnings may be relevant in estimating the future earnings. However, the appraiser must not rely too much on the stage of rapid growth in earnings or of high earnings. The market conditions at those times do not represent the condition of the market at the valuation date. What is most significant is the trend of decline in earnings up to the valuation date.
